[SOLVED] Very High end PC not smooth when FPS is higher then refresh rate?

I9 9900k 4.7 all cores
2080ti
32gb 3200mhz
Asus z390-e gaming mobo
1000w gold psu.corsair
MONITOR- Asus Pg279q 165hz 1440p

Games run extreamly well at 165 FPS capped. But literally any amount of frame rate over my monitors refresh rate of 165hz causes the game to slightly skip and almost stutter while looking around etc. for example I get 270-300fps 1440p in fortnite and cargo but it’s no where near as smooth as running 160-165fps and to me this makes no sense because I’m adding input lag when I shouldn’t have too?? I have the latest drivers and PC is only 2 months old so there is really nothing on there except the basic gamer programs...am I missing anything in nvidia control panel? Or am I just screwed or somthing? I’m using DisplayPort I tried my 4K monitor that’s 60hz and same thing anything over 60hz was causing this issue..PLEASE HELP ANYTHING HELPS been driving me absolutely nuts!

I read an article on this that went into a lot of factors about refresh to frame, I cannot recall where it was. Someone here posted about it. I am anxious to see if someone will again.

the problem is that your pc is providing to many options that to your monitor. v-sync will at a little bit of input lag but it will feel far smoother. give it a try and see if that works.

Are you referring to screen tearing?

That's called tearing. It happens when you go over your monitors refresh rate. You can enable vsync or see if there's an option for a framerate cap.
