Very low FPS in Far Cry 3

I'm probably getting 10-15 fps in Far Cry 3. The game is extremely jittery and barely playable.

I even tried turning down the graphics settings to the lowest possible and I still have the problem.

I have a $3,000 enthusiast gaming PC with multiple graphics cards.

Core i7 930
MSI Big Bang Xpower X58 motherboard
6GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
Two HD 5870's (1GB) in CrossfireX with latest drivers
850W power supply
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit

Could it be a problem with micro-stuttering?

Try disabling crossfire for a start. Does it help?

Those cards are too old for FC3.... I just replaced a 2gb 5870 with a 6 gb 7990...

@Brett: should still work at more than 10 fps on lowest settings. On very high settings even single HD 5850 is getting 25 fps. Looks like driver problems.

Doesn't seem like a driver problem to me. A single 5850 is pretty weak and this game is very demanding.

They might not have implemented crossfire well on these old cards for this newer game.

And that's on very high settings. HD 5870 is comparable to GTX 560 Ti in performance (they are very close). So tell me, how is 10 fps ON MINIMUM settings ok, when a similar powered card scores 29 fps on VERY HIGH settings?

If you run the Intel Extreme Tuner does it indicate that your CPU is throttling at all?
- Lots of these 'overpriced' PC's come with a factory overclock that was never tested as stable, 4.0GHz+ and throttling is like running the CPU at 400MHz or less!
- Ditto for the graphics cards.
