Very low frame rates when playing old games (mirror's edge)

I have an r9 390 paired with an fx 8350 with 16gb ram and for some reason I literally get 6 frames per second in "intense" scenes in mirror's edge from 2009. I played this game on the ps3 when it first came out but that obviously was a long time ago. I just bought it again off G2A for a few dollars so that I could replay it to get ready for the new game, but, as I mentioned early, I only get 6 frames per second which obviously isn't playable. My PC has the latest drivers and I played the game at 1920x1080p. It also has no problem crushing newer games at the same resolution such as gta v and battlefront.

Should I request a refund while I can or is this fixable, thanks in advance.

It's not the game. Getting a refund will only give you back your "few dollars". It's probably a compatibility problem. 2009, that was Vista right? You might try running it in compatibility mode and selecting Vista.

Just booted up this game for the first time and having a similar issue.

I've got an i75820k OC'd to 4.4, with 32GB RAM and a GTX 660. The 660 is the weak link, but should still be more than enough to run this game at max on 1080.

Booted it up and was getting really heavy screen tearing even with Vertical Sync turned on in the options. Googled and found a Steam forum where people suggested to manually turn it on in the Nvidia control panel, which I did. Then when I went back in the game it was running fine at 60, but as soon as I hit a big action scene the FPS dropped to like 8 or 10 (FRAPS).

I'm guessing I'll either have to disable v-sync and put up with the tearing, or maybe turn down the settings? Anyone experience something similar?

EDIT:
After Googling it turns out it was a PhysX issue - nothing to do with video card or system. Google and you'll find solution (disable PhysX or edit file to tell it how to use it).
