Hello,

I have a Windows XP computer that I use for software development (compatibility) (I also have a Windows 10 computer).

On my Windows XP computer, I use Skype for VOIP with my development team. As far as sound goes, I have some Realtek speakers (which have fine volume), and a USB headset (which also has fine volume). I just got a new headset that goes around the back of the head instead of over top, which is what I prefer, and this new headset is not USB - it's the oldschool green & pink jacks. (To be more accurate, it has only one plug and it came with a splitter to green/pink. Like this: http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_241004_1.jpg )

There is a physical volume slider on the headset cord, which is at max, and a physical mute, which is off, but the volume through these things is extremely low. As a comparison, with my USB headset, I could have my Skype volume at 30%, and it was fine. With my new headset, I have my Skype volume at 100%, and it's still way too low. This leads me to believe something is wrong, as this is way too much of a natural hardware difference. I looked up reviews of the headsets, and haven't seen anyone complain about the volume being too low.

I do have a "Realtek HD Audio Manager" in the taskbar and I know there's a lot of options in there. I tried messing with them (unmuting stuff, raising levels etc), and it has had no effect.

Any ideas on how to raise the volume? It's a brand new headset right out of the box. Gear Head BN2450NC. Thanks for any advice.

Edit: I should add for clarification that other people can hear me just fine with this mic. The issue is only my speakers on the headset. Everything is far too quiet. 🙁

Solution
3 levels of volume/audio control:
Hardware's own management software - realtek audio
O/S audio management - win XP's sound properties
Device's physical controls

Go through them all methodically. Still no good contact the manufacturer. It may be faulty.

Oops. It was that my drivers were not updated. Downloaded EXE from the Realtek site and installed and it's properly loud now. This means my audio has been low this whole time, but that was 'hidden' because I had been using a USB headset with it's own integrated solution. Thank you.
