VERY POOR! r9 290 performance and random freezes.

I recently upgraded my gtx 660 to an r9 290, I also overclocked my fx 6300 to 4.3 GHz to prevent bottlenecking. In bf4 on ultra in seige of shanghai I get around 35 fps in actual gameplay, on low I am getting 55 fps. I have tried other games like metro last light which on the benchmark on the highest settings got an average frame rate of 35 fps.

On top of this at seemingly random points during general PC usage it will just freeze making me unable to do anything. I am also encountering an issue where sometimes when minimizing bf4 just gives me a black screen ( and it isn't saying no signal or anything like that just black screen).

I have tried putting in my old graphics card and all these problems stopped so I know that it involves my graphics card.

Can ANYBODY think of a solution?

What catalyst version are you on?

I just installed the lasted 14.4 driver update, I presume that comes with the latest catalyst version

If it is always slow I'm thinking you need to do a driver clean uninstall / reinstall.

If it starts fast and gradually gets slower, I'd say heat issue.

I have tried opening the side of my case and blasting a fan into it, and I have totally reinstalled windows, but I will still look into the heating isuue

Did you ever fix it? I have the same issue with my 8350/r9 290 in BF3, BF4, and BFH multiplayer on DX11. Yet, mantle runs fine, and both DX11 and mantle run fine in BF3/BF4 single player :/
