I am sure this question should get the n00b of the year award but I will ask anyways after I give a bit of background.
I am helping my friend fix a computer he bought from a gaming PC company. Long story short they sold him a DOA mobo that has taken me 15 months to get replaced. This motherboard should be coming in tomorrow and I am going to get it all running again.
I have built many computers in my day and done a decent amount of overclocking, but here is where my question is:
I have never had to money to buy the new "unlocked" CPUs but since my friend is a doctor he buys best of the best. I am not sure which CPU he has but it was top of the line last Feb. I know he paid 800+ for the chip alone.
Does changing the muplier have any effect on temps? I know this is a n00b question but like I said earlier I will never spend $1000 on a CPU even if I had the money.
I am currently running an E2140(8x200) @ (8x333)2.66 with good temps. 35idle 62load with my room temps at 85ish bc AC is broken.
