WinXPPro...System idle:98%;Processor:2%;Memory:27%. When coming out of screen saver, extremely slow to begin using. No apps running. Often have to restart to get going.

XP? Probably only a 40gb hdd PATA, 2gb ram, 250 watt PSU, 128mb video card....

It could be a storage problem your hdd is nearly full, try Safe mode then check the volume of the OS hdd, for XP it should be more than 2gb but better to have at least 10gb for best performance.

Add your specs for a better analysis

The issue probably occurs when the system wakes up from S3 mode (or whatever sleep mode it's in); free hard disk space shouldn't be the issue. If only the video goes to sleep, then it could be a driver problem which has been documented a long time ago.

Thank all of you for responding. HDD is 600GB, 74% free. Intel E6600 @ 3.3 GHz. All updates installed. RAM 4 GB. At the wake up time, as I noted before, very little activity. Task Manager shows idle around 90%. I tried examining with Process Explorer, but nothing unusual is showing up. Turn off MSE and other security apps. Changed screen saver to none. Somehow, someway, some app is running (hidden) and I am not finding out what that app is. Hopefull I will be able to transfer all my stuff off this XP to the new rig I built...Win7Pro 64-bit.
Thank you all again for your interest. Luther Hollums

The system definitely draws less than 200W when it wakes up from sleep mode. The CPU is 90% idle and the GPU isn't that busy.
