Hi I have got Winxp home edition which has become slow edition. Every thing
seems to be very slow. For e.g; If i click start menu, it takes few seconds
to appear and same if i try to open some thing it takes ages even burning a
cd is taking 4 times longer than normal. I have got Dell dimension 2600 PC
with 1GB of RAM and 2 hard disks of 120 GB & 80 GB.
My system was giving a physical memory dump error before it became slow
edition. Showing a blue screen and closing down the PC, on restart it said
System has recovered from very serious error.
I think whole prblem starts since I got AOL broadband. I cannot use my
bluetooth because of it as well. I defregment my PC every month regularly but
some how I cann run Check disk command in RUN MODE. Whenever I try to do that
it just dissappears. Do I have to format and install everything again (please
I dont want to do that) plus is this happening because of using home edition
rather than using professional edition ?

Seems to me that I saw this exact issue and post before. There was answers give.

In any case if you had AOL Hell installed the best solution is to reformat in my opinion. Extremely hard to remove all of AOL once it was installed on a computer. You can also be experiencing a virus\malware\spyware. Did you defrag and empty your Tif and cookies. How many programs in your Start Up. All of the above can cause the symptoms that you are experiencing.

Without knowing your computer and just seeing (Red) AOL I would still stay with my original comment of a complete reformat after saving all your Data

AOL is absolutely the single worst thing you could ever put on your
computer. It literally infects every part of Windows, overwrites system
files with it's own versions (even defeating Windows own file protection),
and will absolutely decimate any computer on which it is installed.

When I was working as an independent on-site tech, I would first ask the
customer if AOL was installed on the computer experiencing problems. If the
customer said yes, I would politely explain to the customer that I would not
service any computer with AOL installed, due to the malicious nature of
their software.

The really sad part is...the only way to get AOL off your computer is to
restore/reformat.

Will same thing happen If I format my PC and re install AOL ?
Can I use another version of windows with AOL ?
Can I use professional and home version together ? 1 for AOL and another for
work ?
Guyz, AOl has signed me for 1 year, they are going to charge for a year for
this, there is no way I can cancell, i have checked with them. They are not
accepting it is happening because of their software.

We are sure that you should not have AOL on your computer. We are also sure
that the only way to really get rid of it is to reformat. You can cancel
your AOL broadband. They will try to talk you out of it but if you insist,
they will.

It's recommended that you do not put AOL on your PC if you have a choice
in the matter.

Tell them you want to cancel and don't want to hear any excuses. There is no
OS that works well with AOSmell.
