After sending my defective Sapphire RX480 8GB card back a week ago to my reseller in Europe (RMA process goes through reseller in Europe FIY), my reseller got back to me today and, to my surprise, offered me a credit of 260 euros (I paid for the card 299 back in 2016) to spend on their website. I called my reseller immediately asking why this outcome and said that this is what Sapphire told them to do. Note that my card is not covered by the reseller's warranty, just Sapphire's 2 year warranty.

I then asked why Sapphire didn't either fix or replace the unit but my reseller then told me that the third option is to give money back. He then transferred me to the reseller's technical office who tried to explain to me Sapphire's warranty, that they couldn't replace the card because of GPU draught, etc...

I'm extremely pissed to say the least, there is no way I can replace my GPU with today's insane prices and availability... Can someone confirm if that practice is part of Sapphire warranty's policy? Can they just offer me less money than I paid the card for? Or have I been tricked?

I would recommend something similar. Tell the reseller, "no thank you". Rather, tell them you prefer Sapphire replace the GPU and that you want a copy of the RMA information they exchange with Sapphire so you can track the action.

To confirm this you should be going through Sapphire, not your reseller.

I don't see them offering you more money or even equal money for what you paid because your card is used not new.

Get in touch with Sapphire and find out. Tell them (Sapphire, not your reseller) you want to wait until they are able to replace it. You will likely get an RX 580 8GB. It just might take a few weeks longer.

This sounds suspiciously like a rip-off scam. They offer you less than you paid. The reseller then keeps the Sapphire provided replacement and sells it for a premium (thanks to the crypto-mining craze) and you end up with less than you started with.
