Vga and dvi not working

I have recently built a computer and have connected it to my new monitor with VGA, after turning on the computer and all lights come on it showed a "cable not connected" status.

I then reseated the RAM, checked the CPU and other troubleshoot techniques. I connected a DVI cable and same thing "no signal" appeared

Does this mean that the motherboard itself isn't working or if I but a graphics card will it work?

Any help would be much appreciated..

The pc specs are:
CPU: Intel pentium G2120 3.1 ghz
Motherboard: Asus P8 h61-mx r2.0
PSU: XFX Pro 450w
HDD: Seagate 500gb
