VGA cable from PC to TV

My VGA cable suddenly quit working. It first quit working under my user name so then we used my daughter's account on out HP Pavillion dv6000. Then after a few months of working under her user name, it stopped again. When the cord is unplugged the message on the TV screen says that it is unplugged. When you plug in the cord, it switches and says No signal. I got a new VGA cord, same thing. I tried messing with the screen settings and the pixels but nothing seemed to work. Any suggestions?

Try making sure the cable is connected before you turn on you computer
