VGA DE-15 cable short test fiasco

I am amazed and shocked (no pun intended) that a VGA cable short and continuity test is not described correctly or in detail anywhere on the world wide web. On the 15 pin connector I found continuity throughout the 15 pins but pins 6, 7 and 8 are shorted together along with being bonded to the outer socket of the head of the thing. I thought there must be a problem but a continuity test on a hard wired Dell Monitor cable shows the same sort of short. Pin 6, 7 and 8 are designated as the returns or grounds for the colors red green and blue. Anyone like to comment or confirm my findings? My 2004 LG DLP TV wasn't recieving picture from my laptop so I started testing (first time I tried this). The laptop connected to the Dell monitor Ok.

This is correct. Those three pins are the analogue return pins. They are also connected to the metal shell on each connector to ensure that both the PC and Display are equipotential with respect to earth ground.

Thank you....you are doing this on a Friday night within minutes of my question. We really are sad are we not....or possibly so happy nothing seems sad.......Makes you think don't it?

It's not so bad, I do it in between bouts of video games 😛
