I moved my pc today after finals. at 1230 everything was working fine when I shit down to move. this evening after I set everything back up, I got 8 beeps when I turned the machine on. I took the case apart to check everything. wires, cables, ram, fans, cpu...everything checked out tight. I repowered the system and turned the machine on. again the 8 beeps and this time I saw that the vga led was on and red. I don't use a vga with my monitor, I use dvi. I even tried to use hdmi and the tv as a monitor. still with the 8 beeps and the red vga led.
anyone out there have any thoughts?

thanks

Solution
Try moving the card to another pcie slot.

Try it in another pc.

If the card is OK and you've hooked up the power supply OK then it's most likely a motherboard problem.

Post your build - per forum guidelines.
bgunner:
just installed an evga pciex16 card w/ an nvidia 1GB gpu. powered the system and turned it on. not wanting to sound like I'm repeating myself but,...again w/ the red vga led and the 8 beeps.
any new thoughts?

i7Baby:
my apologies. I'm new to the site and didn't know I was supposed to post my build.
It's a atx tower, asus mobo p8z68-v gen3, lga1155socket, i5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz, 2x4GB ram and a brand new evga pciex16 card w/ an nvidia geforce 8400 gs gpu running 1GB of ram. if you folks need more please let me know
thanks to all for your help

OK - the mobo has 2 x pciex16 slots. Try the card in the other slot. If that stilll doesn't work, then try it in another pc.

If it works in the second slot, then leave it there but it means your mobo isn't working properly. If it works in neither pcie slot but it does then that means you have to get another mobo. If it doesn't work in the other pc then it means you have to get another graphics card.
