[SOLVED] VGA light on and error code 96

Hi,

When I install 3 NIC cards, my motherboard's VGA light comes on and I cannot get any display. However, when I have only two installed, the display works fine. I have a graphics card installed in one of the PCIE slots.

Board: ASUS WS X299 SAGE LGA 2066
CPU: Intel Core i5-7640X
Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4
Power Supply: EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500 W1, 80+ White 500W
Video Card: MSI Computer GeForce GT 710 2GB DirectX 12 PCIe x16
Network cards: Star Tech 4-Port PCIe Gigabit Network Adapter Card

So to support more NIC cards, I need a better CPU? Are there any that have more than 16 lanes?

Yes, the i7 7820x has 28 lanes, the 9900x has 44.
Have you tested the bottom slots?

Do you mean try installing the cards in the bottom three slots?

Edit: I put them in the bottom three, and VGA light still on, I believe i need a different processor

What if leaving 2 on top and only one on the bottom one ?

Nothing changes, in the end i still want to install 6 NIC cards alongside my graphics card

I hoped that the board's chipset controlled some slots, but apparently it doesn't. I would check the BIOS too if any helpful setting.
However, for 24 lanes for cards plus 8 for CPU, you'd need a 44 lanes one.
