Sorry for posting a question that’s been asked before (at least tangentially). I just can’t figure this out from the answers I’ve found.

I’m building a new machine:

ROG STRIX Z690-A WIFI D4
I7-13700K
64GB (2x32) G-Skill DDR4-4000
Crucial T700 SSD

I have a GPU, but it’s not currently installed for debugging purposes. The monitor is connected directly to the DisplayPort connector on the motherboard.

When I attempt to start the machine, the white VGA light comes on and stays on. I initially worked through ASUS on this and they had me send it in for repair, but when I got the motherboard back I’m having the same issue. That would suggest the problem is NOT the motherboard. I’ve tried reseating everything / rechecked all my cable connectors / etc. No dice. I’m now at a loss.

I’m assuming the issue is either the CPU or the memory, but I don’t have another machine to test them outside of this chassis to isolate the problem.

Anyone have suggestions on where I should go from here?

Thanks,
-Ben

Is the display port cable and monitor rated for for DP 1.4a? I ran into that issue before with a cheap cable, granted it caused display flicker rather than no image at all but a premium cable or lack thereof has burned me in the past.

I assume your motherboard has RAM and CPU LEDs that aren't going off on boot so I would start with the simple stuff like cable.
