Vga no signal with blank screen

Hi, thank you for welcoming me to your forum.

I have an emachine 380, 2.2ghz, 60gb hard drive, gforce mx4000 64mb graphics card.

I intermittently get a vga no signal message on a blank screen. Ive tried changing graphics cards, even a 128mb card, fiddling with the connectors and ram seating and still seem to get this error when playing music on you tube or using google earth. sometimes the machine does not even go through the post routine when switching on. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

Sounds like a case of bad capacitors on the motherboard.
Checkout badcaps.net for pictures of what to look for which is bulging tops (they should be flat), brownish ooze coming out of them...

Hi popatim, thanks for the reply, I will have a good look tomorrow when I have some more time and let you know what I find.

Hi popatim,

Had a look at the link and pictures on bad caps. none of my caps look bulging or leaking, although some look as though they been bent over by rough handling ie ones near connectors etc. Ive had another go at re seating the ram and brushed out all the dust as its second hand machine. machine been on all day and no probs so far so im hoping ive accidently cured the prob. Maybe im kidding myself but time will tell.

Thank you for your help and insight, would never have thought to look at caps.
