I recently tried to check if two 2gb of ram from an old desktop worked on a different pc. When I put the ram in (most likely the wrong way) the computer short circuted and turned off after half a second. A smell was being emmited afterwards.
After I took out both the ram sticks and put the other ones back in, both were 4gb, the computer turns on and appears to be working, but, the computer itself is not booting up.
I tried clearing the CMOS by taking out the battery on the motherboard, but it did not solve the problem. Not sure what else to do.
