Vga port on computer to vga port on tv

I have connected my Sharp Hdtv to my HP desktop using the vga ports on both devices. When I boot up the computer, the load screen is displayed on my tv. The connection terminates right before the computer has completed the loading process. Any ideas as to what I can do to fix this issue?

Is your PC set for a resolution your TV does not support?

I set it up for the 1280 x 720 resolution, which should work with the tv. The resolution seeing on the computer range from 1024 x 768 to 1920 x 1080. I'm also not sure what the resolution is on the TV as it is a couple years old and there are no markings or Manuel for it.

try 640x480 and then test once it is booted. The first screen is 640x480 and it is displayed then when it changes resolution the TV does not display it.

I've tried using 800 x 600 (lower setting on computer), 1280 x 720, 1280 x 960, and the 1920 x 1080 resolutions on the computer. Each time the computer is loading, the tv (32") display works but then loses the connection with the computer before it finishes loading. I have to switch the vga cable back to the original LG monitor (20") in order to change the settings. I did get it to actually load the main computer screen the first time that I tried, but it cut off after a couple of minutes that time when I was adjusting the resolution and have been unable to get back there.

I am actually thinking that it might be that the Nvidia graphics card might be the problem.
