ok so i have only 3 vga cables on my power supply but gtx 970 requires 2 of them, is it safe to use one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/PCI-Express-Video-Y-Splitter-Adapter-Supply/dp/B00A3OVG4W/ref=pd_sbs_328_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0T7HTY2C48H2AZEGCCPP&dpID=31kQ9ZDMhTL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

to basically split them?
would it cut the power in half?
are there any downsides to this?

Solution
So heres the deal, yes you can split the cable and it will work, however running 2 cards will drive that PSU hard, and its not their best model, probably why they eliminated that extra cable, to discourage using 2 higher powered GPUs.

The NEX series unfortunately doesn't have the best reputation, this is about the NEX750G but they are the same as the 750B just more efficient:

You should consider if you're going to SLI to buy a different PSU, the EVGA 750B2 will do the job for you and is much higher quality, or the 750G2 is more efficient as well.

750 watts and im sorry i forgot to mention, the reason i needed the splitter was because i was gonna get another one and sli them both

supernova nex750b, i will be overclocking both gtx's so im sure if that will be enough but i read in several forums that it would be fine

750 watts is enough power (just about) to SLI, however We really need to know the brand and model. Only having 3 PCIe cables is strange, generally its 2 or 4.

Ok so the NEX 750B has 4 VGA cables, the red ones. 2 are hard wired and 2 plug into the red plugs on the PSU. Where did the 4th cable go?

i think your looking at the worng one, mine doesnt have any red cables on it.

it has one hardwired and 2 modular

This is yours right?

The old version had red vga cables, I guess they changed it. That said this version has 2 hardwired VGA cables as well, and 2 modular, so where is the second hardwired cable?

Hardwired should be the 24 pin motherboard cable, the 4+4 pin CPU cables, and the 2 6+2 VGA's

EDIT: Wait I am wrong. Although the PSU is marked VGA 3 and 4, apparently they eliminated 1 hardwired cable n the new version, as the spec sheet also says 3.

i got the manual it came with and it says one is hardwired and theres two modular called "vga2" and "vga3"
for a second there i thought i was going crazy XD
