I have a Dell Optiplex 790 (Win7 64 bit) with a DP and VGA ports. I connected a Dell E1912H monitor to the VGA port and another to the Display port using a VGA-DP adapter from Monoprice.
If I plug in the VGA-DP adapter while I'm already logged in, the 2nd monitor works fine. Once I shut down and turn it back on, I start to have issues. When I turn it on, I'm able to see the Dell and Windows splash screens and the Windows login screen on the monitor connected directly with the VGA port but the 2nd monitor using the DP adapter is in power save mode. After I login, the 1st monitor (VGA) does not load my desktop, it just shows a black screen. It is not in power save mode because the light on the monitor is blue. The 2nd monitor stays in power save mode.
The only solution is to force shut down, unplug the VGA-DP adapter, restart, login, then once the desktop appears, plug in the adapter and everything works fine until I shut down.
This happens on the two computers (both Dell 790s) I have tried so far.
