Vga to dvi converter vs vga to dvi cable

Hi.im curently using vga to dvi converter but it not work.will the cable work for me?

Why does your converter/adapter not work?
Both should work equally well.
Possibly, the dvi end is not a dvi-I connection.
the -I is the 4 pins that carry the vga analog signals.

A cable has the advantage of one less interconnection.

Both my graphix card and mobo using dvi d port.my cable have dsub port on both side.
And both not detected.i asume converter is broken.but after i buy the 2nd converter it still not work.i tested on my friend pc also not worked.but when i using a dvid to dvid cable on my friend monitor its worked!my monitor only have 1 port and that is d sub port.
