VGA TO DVI-D(oldMonitor)

So here's the situation. My gf is asking for my help and I don't know what she's talking about. She said she wanted to fix her monitor that seems blurry by changing cables. She's currently using a VGA cable and when I looked at her system unit, there is no DVI input but there is an HDMI. But, on the monitor there is a DVI-D with dual channel. What should I do? Buy a hdmi to DVI-D or VGA to DVI-D? Forgive me, I'm not that computer literate.

VGA is an analog connection, and the quality of image will not be as good as a digital image.
If the pc has a hdmi output which is digital, buy a hdmi to dvi cable like this:

I've recently bought one and seems the monitor can't receive the signal. I've connected the HDMI end on the motherboard and the DVI end into the monitor. I've changed the input source from VGA to AUTO-SELECT and even the DVI option. I've restarted a couple of times but still the monitor won't detect any signals.
