VGA to HDMI Converter - No Sound

Hi Community,

I have had my PC plug into my plasma TV through VGA cable which has worked great for many years. I have just upgraded my TV to a new LCD Smart TV which does not have any VGA ports. I purchased a VGA to HDMI converter which has a 3.5mm stereo audio input. The display works perfectly but I don't get any sound.

I have gone into Realtek HD Audio manager and cant figure it out. It is an old computer (Dell inspiron 530) which I believe does not have a sound card (not sure if this is correct).

In Realtek I can only select speakers no other options, like HDMI. Can I download a driver or is my computer too old to support this.

Any help is appreciated.

Plug in a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable like this one, between the hdmi converter and the pc which should be a green jack on the back of the pc and you may actually have it plugged into the tv or had it plugged into the old one.

Yes I have the 3.5mm cable plugged into the converter and the computer. I have it in the green jack and have tried the other jacks as well (including headphone) also have tried a different cable in case it was faulty to no avail. Would it not be the settings I need to change for the sound?
