I have a vga to hdmi convertor box, which woks with a friends 42" toashiba tv, also works with my Benq 22" lcd monitor but NOT with my Panasonic 42" plasma tv .... any suggestions ??

Not all HDMI versions work with each other. I had an older Sony tube HD TV hat did not display any video from my DVD player though HDMI.
You could try a different converter brand maybe if you think it's worth trying it, may not work either though.

There are some USB HDMI video cards, but since they tend to be slow it may not work for 1080p stuff. 720 should be OK though. http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-GUC2025H-External-Video-Interface/dp/B004OA73PW

And once again, the HDMI output may not work with our TV same as the other converter you have.

hang-the-9 you are spot on (sadly)
I got in touch with the company who sold me the unit and they said .. 🙁

"We have forwarded this to our manufacturers technical team and they have said that this converter does not work with the HDMI chipset in Panasonic TV's."

so I need to try another converter, I'll post here when I find one that works .. 😀
