I need to switch my monitor from using VGA to HDMI. It is one monitor, not two. Currently, it is using the VGA port. I want it to use the HDMI port. Unplugging the VGA and plugging in the HDMI cord does not work. It will be black until the VGA is plugged back in. The monitor port and the HDMI cable are fine (they work with consoles). I assume this is only a problem with driver, windows, or bios settings Any help would be greatly appreciated.

with some mb and gpu you have to reboot with the hdmi cable in the hdmi port if not the port is turned off. if your video card has dvi port then try a dvi to hdmi cable. all you lose is sound. a hdmi to hdmi cable will pass pc audio to the monitor. with hdmi cables make sure it a newer cable and it rated for pc.

I forgot to mention that I've tried the reboot thing.

I didn't know to check if its rated for PC. I bought it from NewEgg though, so I assume it is. I'll see if I can look into it.

Any other Windows, graphics drivers, or BIOS related things you can think of?

Thank you so much for you help.
