I have an LG L227WTG monitor with a GTX 570. I've been using the VGA port on the monitor with the DVI port on the graphics card. I recently purchased a DVI-D adapter and would like to try it out because the VGA cable isn't very stable and causes the screen to flicker/shadow when touched. When I plug the VGA into the DVI-D adapter into the monitor, it says check signal cable, I'm unable to use the monitor buttons while this is happening. I've read that I can't just plug it in willy nilly with some monitors, but I have to apply DVI in settings, if this is true, what settings??? Also, I've read that to press "source" on the monitor while it's connected to DVI will apply it, but the buttons on the monitor do not work unless it's on VGA directly and the display is being fed correctly. Any solution?

Dvi-d is digital and vga is analog going from one to the other requires an active converter a simple passthrough adapter wont work. Where the monitor and video card both have dvi ports why dont you just get a dvi cable? While some places sell cheap adapters labeled as dvi-d to vga they are worthless, only dvi-I and dvi-a will work with vga using a simple passthrough adapter.
