Hey guys,

I finally got a win98 installation to work after trying unsuccessfully many times over the last week. I now have it running and it works great except for when I play video or audio, after 10 seconds to 1 minute, my computer locks up and gives off this continuous high-pitched screech that scares the crap out of me. It's coming from my regular speakers and not from my case speaker so I don't think it's an alarm. Here's my setup:

ASUS A7V-E
800mhz Thunderbird Athlon
45 GB IBM Deskstar
256 MB ram
ATI Radeon 64 MB w/ VIVO
Soundblaster Live! Value
3Com905 Ethernet Card
12/10/32 Plextor Burner

Another note, my brother put in ram upside down (yes, that is right, and yes, he did manage to cram it in) and fried the ram and mobo. I replaced the ram and mobo and tested all the hardware individually and it all worked.

Please help, I miss my clubjackass.com videos!!! Thanks

Assuming its nothing to do with your brother's (I hope you gave him a kicking) messing around, it might be a device conflict. Check out device manager for any conflicts or shared resourses between the two rogues.

Although, I didnt' have quite the same thing happening as you did, and I'm not sure if you are overclocking at all. But my media player would lock me up after about 15-30 seconds of playing a song. All I did was increase the voltage to my cpu from 1.70 to 1.75. And 'voila no more lockups.

My roomate change the irq settings on my computer last night and it seems to have worked up to this point. I am not overclocking... yet. I also want to bring up that every once in a while I'll get a message window when I get into windows that says my registry is screwed or something along those lines. Is there any way to fix it without reinstalling win98? Thanks
