I just bought a Panasonic MiniDV Camcorder. What are some good
software choices for pulling movies from the cam to my computer. I am
pretty new at this so the simpler the better. My main goal is to be
able to post video clips and some vacation movies to my website. The
camera has a firewire (I.link) port and I already have the cable.
Thanks for your help.

To get the file from camcorder > computer see earlier post "Firewire card".

As far as posting clips on the web, would mpeg4/xvid be the best format, as
it gives very good compression? (I have only encoded mpeg2 for dvd so far)

If you use WindowsXP then try MovieMaker (update to version 2), it
will allow capture via I-link (or: firewire) to dv-avi (as good as it
gets/equal in quality to the version on tape) and can convert to
Microsoft specific format (.wmv) which has good compression and can be
played by many pc users.

Other vendors of video-editing software: Ulead, Adobe, Sony, Pinnacle,
MainConcept.
