So my Asus GTX 1070 video card has a fan that started making a squeaking noise followed by a clunking noise. Upon checking, it looks like one of the fans is loose. I've found a few different fan replacement kits that say they're compatible with my model of video card.

My question is how difficult is it to replace the fan?

I assume it's just a matter of taking off the plastic shell, taking off the old fan, and connecting and mounting the new one, but i wasn't sure. I guess it's worth a shot first before buying a whole new video card.

Too bad my warranty expired 6 months ago...

Can't say I've ever done this. But I do recall seeing a video on YouTube where Linus (Linus tech tips should be the channel) did some kind of rigging job on a gpu using I think 2 or 3 noctua fans and some zip ties.

In fact I believe one card he used was your card lol. I rewatched the video, and he says that after doing the mod, he actually got better performance out of the card because it could boost higher.

But if you opt for the fan you saw on Amazon, maybe it will give a little insight.
