I was wondering what currently is the best video card for a G-400 computer
running Windows 98SE. It is a Pentium II 400 MHz with still the original
BIOS. Currently it has a Hercules GeForce2 MX with 32 Mb and the AGP slot
is a 2X.

I know a lot of the cards out there require a PIII 600 MHz or better to run
properly.

Thanks!

Try a GeForceTI card, I heard those were nice and they're made for 2x slots.
I had a GeForce4 64mb running in a PII 333 Gateway no trouble. What's your
PSU? If it's a low one you might have to upgrade it when you get a higher
end card.

Go carefully here, especially if buying a new card. Some AGP cards work only at
4x and 8x, not 2x. Others operate in an AGP slot supplying 1.5v, not the 3.3v
AGP in your system. Some AGP cards work at either voltage... Ben Myers

What about a ATI Radeon 8500 128Mb DDR AGP Video Card 2X/4X? That's the
best I've seen so far.

Not sure. Check with ATI tech support before buying. Odds are fairly good that
it works at 3.3v, but I like to bet on sure things... Ben Myers

FWIW my Matrox G550 card has worked fine in the AGP slot in my G6 400 for a
year and a half now. And you can use two monitors with it.
