My video card Nvidia GTX 560(non-ti) is overheating with no reason idle temp is 74C when you test it via occt 640x480 the gpu will go to 100C and shutdown itself to prevent damage. i already cleaned dust and re apply thermal grease(TG-2) and still the idle temp is high. i already have clean install on format my drive but still the gpu is overheating. what could be the problem?

When you re applied the thermal paste did you make sure your thermal paste was a small grain like blob in the center?

Did you overclock your GPU?

How is the airflow in your case?

yes it's a small circle in the center.

i did try to overclock it last month but i choose to use the default speeds because i only got 2-3FPS(not worth the risk)

airflow is good. my side case is open.

strange is that when i feel the air being blow by the fan it's not even hot or warm i also put my nzxt sentry 2 temperature sensor at the center of heatsink it detects only 36C.

Having the side of your PC case is a terrible idea, unwanted dust and particles will enter the pc and if the particles are big enough it may suddenly cause a serious overheat.

Check if the fans are working properly and you can user define the fan settings through MSI Afterburner

If you applied the paste in a circle(empty center) on the die, you probably have a air pocket in the middle of the die.
Reapply thermal paste with a large grain of rice amount in the center of the die and let the heat sink pressure spread it to the outer parts of the die.

i tried your suggestion. now my gpu idle @ 70c when going underload it jumps immediately to 80C 90C i will show the graph later. and i tried my other gtx 560 reapplied thermal grease (TG2) idle is 32C underload 65C now i think that the other gpu have a broken temperature sensor.

i just found out the reason of overheating. The thermal grease of IHS(Heat Spreader) is dried out that's why that the heat is not being transferred to the HSF (HeatSink). i just reapplied the thermal grease at heat spreader and the temperature idle is 29C and 65C at full load. thanks.
