Anyone out there using the Nvidia TI-4200 video card? I have a
Gateway Pentium IV, at 2.8 Ghz, with 1 Gig of DDR memory, and this
card. I'm also using a cable internet connection.

The game keeps resetting my terrain levels to the lowest
possible settings, as if my video card can't support the higher
levels.

Am I missing some type of setting for this card that would
improve this?

Thanks in advance!

Yabu

i used to have the same card before i upgraded- it's still a great card- i
wouldnt say it could handle galaxies with all the levels turned all the way
up but it can definetely handle more than the minimum. i have a 5600ultra
and i still can't run at full detail. sorry, but i have no clue why it
would keep resetting like that

Now that is strange. As far as I can tell, the game does not "reset"
settings. After logging in & at the GUI with the "play" button, have you
selected the "options" & set up your video from there (outside the game)?
Maybe something there is set lower & is resetting it in the game.

My wife & I are both using a ti4200 with no problems, even in very crowded
areas. Mine is overclocked to being equal to a ti4400 but I don't think
it makes much of a difference. We both have a gig of RAM & AMD XP 2500+
CPUs, mine o'clocked making it equal to a 3200+ & yea, that does make a
difference. The only time we feel a hit in performance is when riding a
speeder bike into a crowded area. It clears up quickly & we are fine.

The ti4200s are still great cards & IMO it is still not time yet to upgrade
& get "blow away" by the resulting performance increase. Next line of cards
maybe.

I have the 4200Ti and im not experiencing any problems with it. I once put
everything on maximum, but the game couldnt handle that very well. So I put
everything back the way they were when I installed it, normal mode.

Do a Full Scan before you start the game. It's possible that you have a
corrupted file that is causing the settings to get reset. It also could be a
game bug, for some reason I cannot get help turned off in certain screens
like my data pad. I click the checkbox to off but every time I return to the
game it's still set to on. Can't seem to figure out why but it sounds
similar to your problem.

Cheers

I think the "help" check box thing is a bug, I have it too and haven't
been able to get rid of it. As far as the TI4200 goes I've played this
game with 3 different cards, the 4200, an FX5600 256 mb and I'm
currently playing on a Radeon 9800 XT. The TI4200 actually ran better
than the FX and I never had the problem you are encountering. I'd have
to agree with TC, do a Full Scan next time you log in. I do this about
once a week and it seems to keep the problems down to a minimum. Just
my 2 cents.

I've had the same problem, but it only happens to me when I open the
datapad.

Thanks for all the responses! Still not sure what the problem is, but
I did find the following:

My Gateway Pentium IV had the BIOS set so that the Pentium
Hyperthreading was disabled.......

and

The graphics setting in the BIOS was set for PCI, instead of AGP.

Don't know if changing these will improve my performance, but
giving it a try!!
