Video Card upgrade

I'm planning to upgrade my video card from Nvidia RivaTNT2 M64 32MB to GeForce4 Mx440 128MB. Does this worth the purchase since it will only cause me $50, i don't really have the money to get any titanium based geforce and my motherboard doesn't support 8x-agp to get the 5200.

Would i get at least more than 20fps in UNreal2k3 with this upgrade @ 800*600? Thx for the help.

If you're on a budget, then I guess it's fine, but for a few dollars more, you could opt for a GeForce3 Ti200 w/64MB card instead (listed as US$51 at Pricewatch).

Not sure about UT2003 tho.

I'd shop around on-line as the mx440 is really rubbish + I would have thought 128Mb isnt a benefit to you on that card. like the previous post said, for literaly just a few dollars more you can get a far superior card.

what would you prefer a geforce3 ti500 64MB or a geforce4 ti4200 128MB. I'm also opting for a 4200 for $70., is the 4200 has a major performance advantage over a 440.

The TI4200 is far better than the MX440! It´s a true Geforce4, with DirectX 8 support and newer technologies like Pixel-shaders. Get the TI4200!

The MX440 is a great 2D card, the 2D quality is far better than GF3. The TV-out is also far better on GF4MX than GF3. But the MX sucks in 3D comparred to both GF3 and GF4 TIs.

That does it. I'm getting a GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB w/ tv-out. Money won't hurt that much for 80 bucks.

but not yet final. I'm thinking for a good board manufacturer. The one i have on my list is from GAINWARD ULTRA TI4400 128mb TV-out, th cost here in philippines is $105. I'll just save more with this one.

The 4200 is an awesome choice.

Just wanted to mention that you have the option of using AGP 8x cards on your 4x motherboard.

But still, the 4x AGP 4200 is still better than any 8x AGP card in your pricerange.

Picked up an Abit Siluro Ti4200 8x w/64mb RAM about a month ago. I have it overclocked T 290/600 and it's giving me 3D Mark 2001 scores better than an average Ti4600. No ramsinks, just stock cooling. For around $100 you almost can't lose with any brand name Ti4200. The Ti4200 is a mature chipset, so you'll probably be ok with any recognizable name.

Do you mean that i can place an 8x-agp card in my mobo which only supports 4x-agp. If that is so, then i would rather get a GeforceFX 5200 128MB card.

And for at least i can run doom3 for 20fps. at 1024*768 with full effects. I know from the time i heard doom3, my video will halt in this game that's why i'm upgrading.

NO NO NO the 5200 nonultra sucks. The ultra is a decent value DX9 card (because of its price), but the nonultra lacks the power to run DX9 games properly. It sports DX9 as more of a "cool feature". I say go with Ti4200.

These days, no matter what company you like, be it nVidia, ATi, or whatever, no matter how logical your reasons, you're labeled an idiot or a fanboy, or both.

1- Yes, you can place it in your 4x AGP mobo

2- No, you don't want to, the Fx 5200 sucks compared to a Ti4200. Performance will be WAY worse.

yess for 110 bucks with rebates i got the 5200 ultra it is very fast for now, im pushing 99 fps in americas at everything normal and it looks great but i know somne ofthe older g cards can push more. i would really say this card running anything under normal is the best looking card for 110 bucks.Even fast with AA on if ucna belive thta it looks great.

yeah, we all noe gainward looks nice for the ti4200, but wat abt the BFG? i can get it at 110 for the 8X version..

and i read that the ti4200 128mb is not tt much better than the ti4200 64mb becoz of the 500mhz, but the 128mb 8X is better.. so how?

i really don't see other popular manufacturers, coz bfg is rare to find here. That's why Gainward is the only option i can go with or Asus.

Umm, in non AA/AF they both perform almost identically, with the Ti4400 being a few fps better. However when AA/AF is turned on the lead is taken by the 5200U with a few frames more. It really depend on whether you Use AA/AF, because if you do I would reccomend the 5200U.

i forgot this: does the Geforcefx5200 ultra uses 256-bit memory. Yes, i would use AA in my games since my monitor inly supports up to 1024*768 resolution.

It does not have a 256-bit memory pipeline. The Ultra has 128. I'd take the 5200Ultra over a Ti4400, because their speeds are relatively close and the 5200U has DX9. Just don't get the nonultra.

What really matters to me is if the card supports DirectX 8.0, because of the Pixel and Vertex shaders. Is the GeForce4 MX a directx 8 card or only the Titaniums. Still thinking about INNO3D geforce4 ti cards, are they worth it. (many of their video cards have tv-out or vivo too and cheap)

I see. The GF4 MX is DX7 only. The GF4 Ti is DX8, as is the GF3. I've not heard anything bad about Inno3d, but you should wait for a response from someone who knows more about all that.

nVidia cheated on me so I left her for ATi. ATi's hotter anyway...
