I bought a new cookie cutter Pc, with plans to upgrade, and first on my list was the onboard graphics..as they suck.
Anyways, I open it up, and attempt to slot the card in, as I have in numerous Pc's before, and to my surprise, the card will not fit. It's not a case of jiggling it, it's way too far off to do that. (It's a case of the card being longer than the slot. When flush with the openings on the back, the card is back about 4mm from the slots)

I've never heard of this problem before- and was thinking maybe the computer maker (Gateway) screwed the motherboard in wrong? But what is weird, and nullifies that idea, is that the rest of the slots & stuff line up.
I have tried multiple cards and all have the same problem.

Anyone have any ideas? :s

Here are some pics...

This is the slot in question.

This shows how far the card is from lining up

This shows the card flush with the back f the pc - so it cannot go frward any further.

And this shows the other parts & ports line up

Thanks in advance to anyone who can.
If more information is required, please say so

That is definitely an AGP video card which will be unusable in the pc you just bought since it only has pci express x1 and x16 slots, as well as normal pci slots. You will need to get a card that can use those types of connections.

The pictures are a little blury and I can't quite make out what you have . Can you post what the card is you are trying to put in and you want to make sure the pci-e slot bracket bottom is seated properly when you first put it in. I had a similer problem where the slot bracket was not seating right between the MB and the case I had to bend the bottom tip just a bit to get it right. also make sure your not putting it in on an angle.

Your right ,that is an AGP card I just took another look at it. That defiatly will not fit.

Ugh...yep, found out that is the problem... this sucks, with Pci cards being inferior...
It's weird that my 10yr old comp was able to take them cards, whilst this newer one won't.

Thanks for the replies guys..
Guess i'll have to find a pci card that will do the job <.< which won't be easy.

PCIe is the newest standard and is far superior to AGP. You need a PCIe card. PCIe is a different standard than PCI and a different slot-style.

Agreed, you try to put an AGP graphic card into a PCI-Express slot. It won't ever fit, ever. We can know tha because: PCI-E cards pins don't have any spaces in-between except those few pins that are apart. AGP cards have two spaces in-between pins so it's easy to recognize them. Also the PCI-E slot is longer than the AGP slot.
