my toshiba satellite needs a new card as pre-bought dvds wont play now which one do i buy

What makes you think it needs a new card? you play dvd's in drives.
Do other things work on it?

You can't upgrade video cards in most laptop, including yours. How are you trying to play the DVDs? Are they seen by your system at all? If you start your DVD player software, can you open the disks?
