Hi,
I'm in for a new PC, to upgrade my AMD Phenom II X4 850.

For daily PC use (surfing, general desktop programs, not interested in games ) and 1080p video editing not 4k .

There seems to be no clear consensus on, AMD Ryzen 7 5700G vs Intel Core i5 12400.

Some say get the Intel for the decoders/encoders, some say get the Ryzen for the extra cores.

I play around with Vegas, Shotcut, Premiere, and Avid. Yet to try Resolve.

My specs would be, 16GB Ram, M2 boot drive, an SSD for the footage, maybe a GPU later but that's basically it. I can get both the Intel & Ryzen with the above specs for the same price.

I know both CPU's are going to blow my Phenom II out of the water, but anyway.

So, what do you recommend?
Thanks.

For a no GPU option the 5700G is much better. Intel onboard graphics aren't that good, but that might not matter much to you.

It is typical to build a system with 32GB of memory today. 2x16GB memory is the optimal configuration. Since either CPU will be using the system memory as video memory, this also leaves you more room for your applications.

I would probably lean towards the 5700G.

The graphics performance doesn't matter, but if the Intel codecs can scrub video on the timeline smoother and render quicker than the Ryzen that's a plus for the 12400.
