I've been working for a while on a build for video editing (premiere and avid), some color correction (resolve), sound post (protools). I don't care about gaming or anything else.

I've come up with the list below after spending a bunch of time on here - thanks to those who got me this far.

I'm wondering if my power supply is overkill? PC partpicker shows 459W but I'm not sure that this takes into account an OC?

I don't intend to add another GPU, but obviously that could be a reason to hold onto the 650W supply.

I'm also curious if there are any comments on the motherboard, CPU cooler, or RAM choices?

Finally, don't pay too much attention to the spinning drives, I already have them, will make a RAID 0 for working media, which will never be critical. It's the only affordable option to work on projects with the size and data rates I'm dealing with (2-5TB, 300-400MBps) that I can think of.

Solution
CPU - The i7-5820k is fine, but the newer i7-6800k offers a higher clock speed and newer technology (a bit faster). If using the newer CPU, plan on updating the BIOS of whatever X99 board you buy.
MB - Look toward the Extreme4
MEM - X99 has quad memory controllers so install modules in sets of 4.
SSD - Check out the Crucial MX300 or Sandisk X400.
GPU - For video editing, the GTX 1060 is a bit of overkill. The GTX 950, GTX 960 or GTX 1050 would be just fine.
PSU - 650w is a good size for what you are after.

Thanks for the useful reply. I've thought about going with a lower powered GPU, so I appreciate it. I wonder how much difference I'll notice in Resolve. It's not the primary use, but it is something I'm going to need from time to time.

Any other thoughts on the 5820 vs 6800? I'd read places that the difference is minimal, but the price difference is becoming pretty small as well. I think I'll take your suggestion, unless anyone else weighs in with a reason to stick with the 5820k (such as better OC)

AND thanks very much for the RAM, SSD suggestions, I'm going to go with those for sure.
