Hey all,
Im planning on building a new PC for video editing and animating soon, but i'm kinda getting lost in the whole Ryzen vs Intel thing.
Right now i'm planning on getting the following:

CPU: Ryzen 1700
Ram: 16GB (maybe get more once prices start dropping)
GPU: 1060 6gb
HDD: 1x 256 m.2 for programs
1x 1tb SSD for cache & video files
(will use about 6tb external and normal HDD's for back-ups and storage).

My budget is 1400,- euro.

Is it better to go for an 8700k and cut some on the HDD's?
Should I maybe go for the Ryzen 1600 and get an 1070 GPU?
What do you guys think?

Wait a few more weeks and see what happens with the Ryzen 2600/2700 + 400-series motherboards launches.

On the GPU side of things, Nvidia will be launching new GPUs using GDDR6 in a few months and that will likely cause many miners to ditch their GDDR5/5X GPUs. There may be plenty of affordable 1070-1080Ti once that happens.

So you're saying wait it out? I kinda need a new PC fast since this once's starting to literally fall apart.. How long will it take you think?

According to leaks, the launch will be either the 18th or 19th... so about three weeks away.

If you are that desperate to get your system up and running ASAP though 1700 + GTX1060 at current pre-launch discount rates isn't a bad deal either. Just make sure you get a motherboard with post-1.0.0.6 AGESA BIOS preloaded to reduce your chances of running into issues with Ryzen's picky memory controller.

Thanks for the tips. Do you think the prices will start dropping much as soon as it gets out?

AMD recently lowered the MSRPs for Ryzen 1000, I doubt it is going to lower them again any time soon.

It really boils down to whether you can bear waiting for about another month for a 2700 instead of a 1700 IMO. Only $10 more for 10-20% more performance if it retails at MSRP and you avoid having to deal with first-gen Ryzen quirks - assuming the 2600+ launch goes smoother than the 1000-series'.
