Hello all,

This is my first ever post, and I am hoping that I am in the right place. This is my first ever build and any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

So starting next week I am moving from a large corporate job with Dell towers and Lenovo laptops everywhere, to a smaller business where I have more seniority. After some thought, I decided that it would be both cost effective and fun to build my own PC for my new Senior Video Editing position. I have done some reading over the last few days and hope that your minds can point me in the right direction.

I am looking to spend around $1500 (not firm, but just a tiny bit flexible) and it does not include operating software or monitors, etc. Just the tower. I think I would like to go with the new Haswell Intel chips, but thats just my opinion after my research. This is strictly for Video Editing, nothing more. I plan on running two monitors as well, in case that matters.

So if anyone is up for it, I would love to know what the best setup could be?! Also, if you have some general advice too, like don't buy this or be sure to get tons of RAM, etc, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank all much in advance for the advice!

CORE I7 with its hyperthreading is a must. Go for core i7 4770k

Add plenty of ram obviously. I set it at 16gb but You can add more

If ur not looking to game a mid range Gpu would suffice like an r7 260

OR

If you are interested you can go for Intel xeon processor which is awesome for multi channel memory, specifically designed for video editing and hardcore stuff

I was always curious about a better GPU when it came to video editing. Good to know I won't have to blow a ton of money on that now.

Also, I heard that I should expect to spend about 30-50% of my budget on a CPU? Any truth to that?

Thanks for the quick response!

Is it necessary to have a sound card for video editing? All the other builds I've read never buy them. What benefits would it give?

Thanks!

To be honest I am not a brand fanatic.

I am sorry you can mention the 660 but I've owned both and the real difference only comes out with Quattro series of Nvidia

And last i saw 660 was not a quattro card

You should also get a mid range GPU , either a GtX 660 or a r7 260x.

Haswell core i7 4770k and 16gb RAM is a great decision.

You technically don't need a soundcard, however it is not uncommon to get one for a full video editing Rig.

A power supply of 500W-600W should be enough. Corsair GS600 is a good option if you want to get it.

I ended up going with this...

Haswell i7-4770K
16 GB Consair Vengeance RAM
Asus Sabertooth 87 Motherboard
EVGA GTX 660 GPU
EVGA 750W Bronze Power
Consair CPU Liquid Cooler

Thanks for all the help!
