Dear Tech Connoisseurs,

Can you please help me build a video editing rig? :)

I need a small computer that can fit into a backpack, yet that's powerful enough for 1080p video editing on Linux.

I have already made a quick build and if you could please critique/perfect it, I'd much appreciate. Here are my thoughts for some of the parts:

CPU: The key player. I went with the best possible one within my budget;
STORAGE: I chose the best possible SSD for the system, a budget SSD for the scratch disk, and a budget internal hard drive for everything else;
GPU: Still very unsure. I might actually build this without the GPU first and then add one if necessary. Or I might simply settle for a Gigabyte GV-N960IXOC-2GD and call it a day.

What do you think? Are there any bottlenecks in this build? Should I go for better RAM?

Here's the build:

ram should be fine. went a little over your budget to make room for overclocking which will help improve on your needs. the 850 pro provides no noticable performance over the evo. the pro just has a longer rated lifespan and warranty. the evo comes with 5yr. the bx200 is reliable, affordable, has twice the storage, and is overall a good ssd for less than $10 more than the transcend drive.

Thanks for the input N3rdR4ge!

I'll definitely follow your advice regarding the PRO vs EVO.

Any tips on what to do about the GPU?

Have a beautiful day! :)

Thanks again!

Those G.Skill memories you picked are DDR3-2400 and (if I'm not mistaken), the 4790K supports a maximum of 1600. Correct?

the ram is overclockable and it's as easy as a setting in your bios. might be tough to fit that hdd with a gpu in the build, so i edited my original build again with a single 500gb ssd. you can add another later but 500 should be plenty for a while.
