Came here because I've searching for a solution with my X9SRA-Board an Win8: this doesnt work yet (no sound, pci-X not working correctly...) so be aware of that!

The rigs all seem a bit overkill to me. I'd say spend less but update again sooner. I was happily rendering 1080p in a 7 year old rig.....Vegas....2Gb ram (256MB gfx) but note for Vegas it's important to have two storage drives.

I would have thought an i7, 16GB ram, SSD+mechanical to be adequate. Gfx card to be chosen depending on what software you plan to edit with. vegas for instance doesn't take much advantage of GFX cards ( for all but the rendering of one particular codec)

The key to video editing I found was to first trans-code into a more useful format for the edit process ( i think it must be a codec that streams better).

Also make sure you have USB3 for transferring rom cameras...saves a bit of time.

also suggest getting a large/fast external backup drive to keep original clips, so you can have onsite and offsite backup.
