So, i had been working on storing Videos on a desktop external drive. So just wondering, what is the smallest video format to store video on a drive and not take up much room

So, i had been working on storing Videos on a desktop external drive. So just wondering, what is the smallest video format to store video on a drive and not take up much room

You can make video files pretty small, but you can also make them look really bad in the process. Is size the only thing you care about? Also the source of the video matter, DVDs and Bluerays have much different size requirement for good quality compression to something like an MP4 file, and you also need to take care in selecting the correct file format and compression to use so they can be played back on many devices.
x265 provides the smallest files (but can't be played back as easily) , which means the best quality at the same bitrate settings, the bitrate is what determines the final size of the video and using the same bitrate will make the file the same size no matter what format you choose.

So basically you have to find out what minimum bitrate still looks good to your eyes on your equipment, with whatever format you choose.
