I used to be able to see live streams at the highest quality on my computer and now when i put it at the highest quality the video lags, but when i lower it it gets better how do i fix that i want to be able to see it at the highest quality please help!

They may have upped the max high quality of videos higher than what you can handle.
It's unlikely you can run things at "source" that are 1440p or 4k resolutions.

It's also possible the streamer you're watching has increased the bitrate of his stream higher than your internet/computer can handle to allow for a higher display quality.

Thanks for replying and also i don't really know to much about computers, but what can i do to make my computer handle watching it at the maximum high? Do i need to buy a certain part for my computer or something?

Because we don't know specifically what's causing the problem, I can't offer any reliable solution.
You could have a virus.
Your computer could be overheating because it's summer.
Someone could be hijacking your wifi/internet.
Your ISP could be screwing you over.

You could try to enable hardware acceleration if you're using Chrome, though I doubt that's the issue.

Go to Settings, click Show advanced settings at the bottom. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and check Use hardware acceleration when available.
