VPCEB1SFX with G1 p888 socket - but I don't know if it is socketed or soldered. Or is there a cpu white list? I would like to do the I7 640m to replace the hosed chip. Note it uses onboard Intel graphics.

This Sony Vaio E series laptop, 15 inch, gets lines across the screen minutes after being powered up, not just in Windows but also in the bios. Clearly a hardware problem, probably in graphics, which in this I5 430m unit would be Intel on board graphics. IOTW, the I5 is hosed. What I need to know is whether the I5 is socketed (apparently G1), confirmation that it G1, and to know whether that CPU is white listed or not. IOTW, what G1 I7 35 TDP chip can safely replace it, and guidance on how to use thermal paste, how is the chip held in the socket and released for replacement. The laptop otherwise is in good shape, used as a spare. To me, worth the effort and $200 or so to get it running again with that somewhat better chip.
