Hello, I intend to buy second hand an I3 3220 and a gigabyte b75 d3v rev. 1.1 mb, to make my mom a new computer. She doesn't do any gaming (duh!) so no need for a video card. My friend used this setup exclusively with a dedicated video card, he never used integrated APU

My question is, can this combination work without a video card? I saw I3 3220 has built in APU (http://ark.intel.com/products/65693/Intel-Core-i3-3220-Processor-3M-Cache-3_30-GHz ), and the mb has DVI and VGA out. So is this enough?

And also, do I have to do something in BIOS to enable the integrated video?

Also, is the integrated video enough on I3 3220 for full hd movies on youtube? (the max video stress this system will ever see)

The iGPU is fine for anyone that does not game. And it has fine HD video capabilities on its own. You don't need to enable anything in BIOS. Just assemble the PC and connect the monitor to the motherboard video port of your choice. (Preferably DVI)

Thanks for the answer, it works perfectly, but I did have to switch the primary display in bios from PCI to IGFX, i had no signal on monitor until I did that, I actually had to use my video card just to enter BIOS and switch that option. All perfect in rest.

What? I haven't seen a board that didn't auto-seek gfx since the old Pentium 4 days. Maybe you just didn't wait long enough for the BIOS to make the connection.

Actually I did, the IGFX was set to disabled. The BIOS had 2 options

Init display first, which was set to PEG, and the Internal Graphics option, which was set to DISABLED. This is why the monitor said check cable signal when i was trying to connect it to the DVI port, and it didn't go to standby.

When i switched the 2 options to IGFX and Enabled, all worked out fine.
