Hello,

The past few months, my PC has been completely bricking during high load events, typically games, most often Call of Duty. The PC just bricks and shuts off, no BSoD.

It’s gotten worse over time, such that PC wouldn’t turn back on for like an hour. And I have to do a “hard reset” by holding my power button down

Now, even when I do a normal shutdown from Windows, my PC won’t turn back on for hours, sometimes a day or so. It’s odd, eventually it will turn back on.

My MOBO lights are on though.

When I try turning it on, I hear a short “zap” from my PSU, but otherwise nothing happens. See video:

I would greatly appreciate any insight. I’m dying over here!

Specs:
i7-9700k
Gigabyte RTX 2080 Windforce OC
MOBO: Maximus Hero XI Wi-Fi
32gb Corsair DDR4
PSU: Corsair AX750

All drivers and BIOS are up to date.

these are some preety strong components, do you have many HDDs or SSDs? if its not powering im lead to think that it burned down and that is for the better to just buy a stronger PSU, are there any other sounds that resonate from the PSU aside the zap sound? If its a really heavy load game then your fans and other components are going wild and eating too much energy, did your PSU fan spin when you were playing?

Thanks for the reply! The PSU is out of warranty (I tried). I have a Corsair H100i AIO cooler, plenty of case fans. GPU/CPU temps are good.

2 Samsung SSDs, 2.5TB

Zap is the only sound from the PSU. The PSU fan DOES spin I believe when under load.

I truly hope it’s the PSU’s age and/or capacity. I have a new one being shipped (mine is out of warranty), but knowing my luck, it won’t fix the issue. Just hoping someone might have particular insight.

Maybe the "zap" is dirt in the psu. Don't really recommend it (safety and all), but if you make sure the psu has as little load left in it (maybe turn it on (=green+black wire) and connect a molex fan to it) then open it not turned on,look inside and see if there is a clod of dust in there. Remove when there.

Well new one is coming so hope that will get rid of your problem, just wait until this one has arrived and is working before tampering with the old one.

All, the new PSU came today (Corsair HX1000i). SO FAR, SO GOOD!

It appears it really was a PSU issue. Unless I report back, assume it’s resolved.

thanks all
The ZAp sound should have been a dead give away your PSU was dying. Make sure that you clean it at least one every 2 months dependant on how long its on for and if you have pets. If you have pets and play daily then once a month is probably better.
