Hi, I'm looking to build a computer for video production and editing. I have no experience in building a computer so I was coming here in hopes of getting a better idea of what parts I will need for this specific build, and then have one of my friends who has built a computer before help me assemble it.

So what I will be using this computer for is primarily editing. I use Adobe's Creative Cloud. I don't do a lot of after effects but I do use it some for logos, lower thirds, and show intros. I will also be using this computer for tv shows that one of my clients produces. For this I will need to be able to connect 3 cameras through hdmi to my computer to live switch the show using Wirecast or Vmix. I've had trouble searching on the internet for the camera connection part. Thanks for any help. Also, my budget is $1500 (less if possible but up to $1500).

Have you ever heard the saying "cruising for a bruising?"

That's someone like you, that lack obvious skills in even the most basic things such as searching the Internet for hardware requirements. In just 5 minutes of searching, I found this page, which not only lists examples, but also list the component that "... connect 3 cameras through hdmi to my computer to live switch the show using Wirecast or Vmix. I've had trouble searching on the internet for the camera connection part."

Really, I think that with no skills in this area, you shouldn't go off to buy a stack of components. Just buy a pre-made computer from Lenovo or Dell and add the necessary hardware, or get Digital Storm or Pueget Systems to build you a bespoke system.

Don't see why you need to be rude and insult me. Thanks for giving me some minimum system requirements. The link that you provided however doesn't answer my question of using hdmi, though. It specifically says hd-sdi in the manual you linked to, which I will not be using. Basically want I'm wanting to find out is (and sorry for not knowing anything about this you don't have to respond if its such a waste of your time) how do i get a build with hdmi ports that will accept an incoming camera feed and what would be your suggestions for parts for building a computer for this type of work. Thanks again for the minimum requirements but I'd like to have more than the minimum unless that's all my budget will get me.

You misunderstand. I was not insulting you. I was warning you that you do not have a clue about how to do what you want to do.

Look around on these forums, see how many people complain about issues even getting their home-built rigs to power up. Without some experience in the matter, are you really willing to risk your entire $1.500 budget?

Assuming you are, let's start at the basics. What cameras do you have that will provide HDMI feeds to the computer?

I'm sorry for taking your original post the wrong way. I understand that I am not really qualified to build this computer on my own with out the help of tutorials and even then it will probably be a hassle, but I do plan on having a lot of help from friends who have built computers before.
The cameras that I will be using are still to be determined, but the cameras we were previously using were these except a version that was 2 or 3 years older.

I took your advice earlier and spoke with Puget. I got a build list from them that was strictly for editing (no capture cards), and it came in at right under $2000. The software I will most likely be using is Vmix and I have the list of supported capture cards. One of the capture cards supports 4 hdmi inputs and it costs about $500 putting me at $2500 total (not including whatever else I need driver wise to use the capture card).
Here's the link to that page:

Here is the list of parts that Puget gave me, again it was priced at $2000 but when I looked up the parts individually I could get it for a little less than $1500 if I do it on my own.

My question here is do I really need the parts they listed or could I downgrade certain ones to save on money? I don't do 4k video primarily edit 1080 and 720, and I don't do a lot of effects. Mainly need premiere pro to run smoothly and to be able to render/export rather quickly. Whatever my build is it will be a major upgrade from my 2010 Macbook Pro.
