So recently built a new PC with Windows 11. Since then, I've been having this weird issue where I'll be watching any video (plex, netflix, even local videos) and the video will start lagging and I'll lose all audio from all sources. Only a restart will fix it. This happened since the fresh install of windows. Did not do this on my previous PC with windows 11.

So far all I've tried is reinstalling the audio drivers and software but the fact that it's affecting video as well tells me it's something else.

Did you install the OS in offline mode, with the latest drivers installed in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator, while in offline mode?

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

Go into BIOS and disable the iGPU and see if that helps. Use DDU to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) in Safe Mode, then manually install the latest driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

i would make sure i have updated this driver:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X870-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support#driver

in the past, some realtek motherboard audio drivers would respond to other system audio drivers and would overflow their buffers. each video card that supports hdmi has sound support built into the connection. So, you might want to update all the drivers for sound and video, then go into control panel device manager and disable each sound driver that does not have a speaker attached to it.
for the case where you reinstall windows, windows will install a old realtek motherboard audio driver that might have the problem (until you update or apply all the system updates)

most often the only symptoms will be garbled sounds or timeouts in video before the GPU crashes.

note: you might also consider going into bios, make any change and change it back, save the configuration and boot into windows. This was a common fix years ago for issues related to DMA channel assignments that are passed from the bios to windows. ie bios builds a database of settings that it uses and passes it to windows plug and play. (this was a reason bios updates often fixed various issues when it really should not have)

most sound cards used to use DMA channel 3 but could use 1 or 5. not sure how these are assigned now.
two cards using responding to the same DMA channel can cause buffer overflows in the driver.

Very close to the setup I have, incl the AE5!
What are you outputting the audio to? AE5 to spkr, HDMI to receiver?
HDMI runs in it's own world, as can the AE5 if the mobo audio doesn't get in the way.
The Creative APO is solid but Equalizer APO with the Peace EQ Front end can really sort out a lot of it.

Many options, but johnbl pretty much nails it.

The new computer isn't the old computer. Streamline your sound and your ears will thank you!
