Laptop Model: Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05 82EY00JXVN
Im getting random BSODs or crash to desktops (CTDs) while playing the game "Warframe" (there is nothing to suggest it is exclusive to the game though, I just play it alot).
A BSOD event goes as follow:
- The game freezes and screen turns black
- Exit out of game window
- Display color tone changed (as if switched to a generic display driver)
- Fan ramps up to maximum (which never happens in normal usage)
- BSOD screen happens
- Laptop never actually shut down (I have to hold down the power button myself)
A CTD behave the same, it's just that the BSOD never happen. dGPU, however, is completely unresponsive after such an event (temperature gauge goes missing on task manager, all metrics flatlining in task manager, geforce app, hwinfo) and requires a restart to operate again.
Both event's frequency has been rather erratic, but is alarmingly trending toward being more frequent: From once or twice a week a month ago to upward of multiple times a day. CTDs start happening in place of BSODs after trying the step in this post [https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/17ljzsg/nvlddmkmsys_bsod_fix/], though after reverting that post's advice, CTDs still happen instead of BSODs... sometimes.
Please note that the laptop is 4 years old by now, and has recently (first time ever in fact) been taken to a repair shop to add an M.2 drive and a ssd stick (I have tried removing the new stick in case of incompatibility). However, it is decently well-maintained: fans are clear of dust and temperatures are well under control. Additionally, the BSODs are rather consistent: it's always the above stopcode, and to the best of my knowledge, the minidump are functionally identical each time.
I have tried to avail myself of help from a kernel diagnostic forums named sysnative, but it honestly it hasn't really gone anywhere. I have only done the basic DDU uninstall then install oem drivers and sfc verify and repair, but honestly you probably already know this feeling already. It's a sort of despondency from all these futile attempts. Adding to that, to my knowledge, errors of this kind has the possibility of being caused by GPU malfunctions. This poses today's post's question: From your experience, is this kind of behavior strongly indicative of hardware failure?
Im open to all sort of simple questions and procedures to help narrow it down, as long as it doesn't contain extreme steps like clean window reinstall or crazy stability tests overnight. I'd love suggestions on how to replicate this too, since Im planning to send this to a repair shop (the same one mentioned above).
Im sorry if this post seem a little brusque, it's quite late right now and Im very tired.
Thanks in advance!
