My wife and I are building her a machine to work from home as she is a kitchen designer. The recommended hardware specs for the software she's using called 2020 Design ver 12:
Recommended Hardware Specifications
Processor:
i7 – 8th Generation (Quad Core) or AMD Ryzen7 models
System Memory: 16 GB RAM
Hard Drive: SSD with 20 GB free disk space for installation
Video Card: DirectX 11 compatible dedicated video card (such as GTX1080)

I can handle everything but the videocard. Since apparently there's a shortage of memory chips on the cards and the prices are astronomical. Is there a card out there that'll run this app that I can buy?

Thanks

Considering current prices, and their requirements, why not a Quadro?

A little older than a GTX1080, but it has a rough core count equivalent to the GTX1650.

GTX1650 are about $400, though not sure the sellers can be trusted:

You can get a Quadro P2200 for about $450

No, not shilling for Amazon, just happen to be what is out there.

If you know anyone in Canada, you can also buy some older GPUs from Dell. Last I checked they were still offering a few GTX1060, 1070, and 1080. You can't buy...

thats fine but will it handle the rest of the app? We're building the system from a Dell Precision T3600:

• Intel® Xeon® processor E5-1600 or E5-2600 family
- 16GB DDR3 RAM
1TB Hard Drive

Adding at 512GB SSD once we figure out the videcard situation

"thats fine but will it handle the rest of the app? "

This came to mind.

"Video Card: DirectX 11 compatible dedicated video card
^^^^If this is the ONLY requirement....then ANY DirectX compatible card SHOULD work.

However...if you look at requirements for games for instance...

Many times they give a "minimum GPU required" and state an actual model.

I'm not seeing that in your requirements.

You might want to do a little digging to see if something like that exists.

....but if we go by this>>>

"Video Card: DirectX 11 compatible dedicated video card"

any DirectX11 card SHOULD work

Here's the thing...

With games...usually the minimum card requirement will allow you to play the game on lower settings.

As you up the card....you can up the settings...and you can also get faster frame rates.

So you get quite a benefit by upping the card.....to a point.

As far as... 2020 Design ver 12

I'm not sure how much "going above the minimum" is going to get you....and exactly WHAT it's going to get you.

I would obviously "at least" go with a GTX1650 or an AMD RX5500xt.

The other thing is...pricing and availability are so out of whack right now....many people are just getting what they can "get".
